Question

I recently bought american girl #15 off ebay and after taking out her braid, her hair is so puffy that I can't do anything with it. I have had no success straightening it to match the hair that was not in the braid. I was thinking of doing a downy dunk to that part of the hair.

Do I have to cover the whole doll? Will downy damage the doll if it gets on anything besides the hair?
    Do I dilute the downy?
How long does it have to stay in the downy?
Should I steam the hair? Or what does steaming do to the hair?

Thanks for any help. I know this has been asked before but I have never needed to do it up till this point.

Maybe, some people just cover the body with a plastic bag, but I don't.

No. You might get the dolls body a little dirty if downy is spilt on it, but nothing like that will ruin it.

    Do I dilute the downy?
    I don't. You really don't need too.

How long does it have to stay in the downy?

I usually keep it in for one hour or maybe two if the hair is really bad.

Should I steam the hair? Or what does steaming do to the hair?

I don't. It just makes the hair straiter, but it doesn't work too much. It helps a little though.

    HTH!!!

As for the straitening....If you want to rebraid it or if you want it "dead" strait then you should do that. What I did for my Molly and Josefina was while the hair was still damp from the downey dunk I took my CERAMIC ( heard metal is bad for the dolls hair) straitener and on the lowest setting, continuously moving it so it didn't sit on one section of hair for a period of time, straitened it. This is good for braiding especially and getting out wierd kinks like you mentioned that don't match the rest of the hair.

You can also consult my restoration album in my signature, if you want.

I like the steaming. I have found that the effect it has on the hair is dramatic, in a positive way.

Wow two really nice restoration albums. Joy's I know I've seen before and I made a point of looking at yours, MissCC this time too. I think I saw someone else's who uses that Glad wrap stuff that self sticks and makes a great protector for the doll's eyes. I can't remember whose album it is now but thought I'd throw that out there for anyone else wondering about keeping the eyes dry. I hope I never have to try this but the two of you make it look so simple, I might be tempted to on my Samantha someday!
